ABOUT
Climate Risk Assessment: Develop methodologies to identify potential losses of cultural heritage values due to current and projected climate hazards. Effective climate risk assessments are crucial for planning climate adaptation and mitigation for cultural heritage sites. The key challenge lies in adapting general climate risk assessment tools to evaluate heritage values such as authenticity and integrity. WG1 aims to provide a toolbox for conducting effective climate risk assessments on cultural heritage properties.

ABOUT
Climate Change Adaptation Objective: Provide practical solutions and guidelines for integrating cultural heritage climate adaptation plans into local climate risk management systems. Effective integration and synergy between heritage climate risk management and local climate action systems are crucial. Overcoming administrative barriers, fostering cooperation, and creating local climate risk management networks are essential for this integration.

ABOUT
Climate Change Mitigation Investigate appropriate measures and interventions to reduce GHG emissions in heritage sites without compromising their cultural values. Encouraging low carbon footprints and reducing CO2 emissions in cultural heritage sites is essential, yet practical implementation remains a topic of extensive discussion.

ABOUT
Community Involvement and Capacity Building: discussing the approaches that can engage the local residents and stakeholders, leveraging local wisdom, and traditional knowledge to create locally adaptable climate actions for heritage sites; and it can enhance societal climate change readiness and boosting social cohesion for local sustainable transitions through cultural heritage.

ABOUT
Establish and manage Urban Living Lab Heritage Cities to serve as experimental environments for developing locally adaptable strategic frameworks for climate action. These ULLs will act as sandboxes for creating evidence-based practices and facilitating a co-creation process with local stakeholders to protect heritage sites and their communities from climate change related hazards
What is COST?
COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) is a funding agency for research and innovation networks. Our Actions help connect research initiatives across Europe and enable scientists to grow their ideas by sharing them with their peers. This boosts their research, career and innovation.
